A Special Invitation from Dr. Mazen Atassi
This Hijrah Walk is a very meaningful experience for me, personally, because of what it represents. This upcoming Hijrah Walk will come just after my 40th Hijri birthday and signify an important milestone in my life.
We all know that most of the Prophets, including the final Seal and greatest of them Sayyidna Muhammad ﷺ, were formally inducted into the office of Prophecy at 40 years old in the Hijri lunar calendar. It marked a new beginning in the lives of these tremendous Men of God; a life of mission, of purpose, of community-building, and complete devotion. The Prophet ﷺ and his Companion Abu Bakr- may Allah be pleased with him- made Hijrah in 622 AD from Makkah to Madinah. This event marks the start of the Muslim calendar and a new beginning for the final chapter of Islam and Prophecy in this realm.Similarly, we are all asked in this life to make our own Hijrah.
I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say:
"Actions are in accord with their intentions, so each man will have what he intended. Thus, he whose migration (Hijrah) was to Allah and His Messenger, his migration is to Allah and His Messenger; but he whose migration was for some worldly thing he might gain, or for a wife he might marry, his migration is to that for which he migrated." [Bukhari & Muslim]
Sometimes Hijrah means moving to a new country in pursuit of safety to practice one’s faith, secure halal provision, and raise a Muslim family in a healthy environment. Hijrah can also meaning an inward Hijrah in which one leaves behind sin, transgression and defiance of God, and seeks the life of the Heart through harmony with God’s Will and Law.
Here at Forward To Health we are in the vocation of helping people heal, remember, and align with the Truth holistically; in body, mind, and spirit. This Hijrah is especially unique because we are intending and designing it to be a holistic healing and spiritual experience for all attendees.
Along with a full immersion in the Hijazi habitat and footsteps in which the Prophet ﷺ and his Companion tread on their journey to Madinah, including day trekking in the desert, camping under the stars, and reflections on food, exercise, sleep, and the basics of a Fitra lifestyle & holistic healing, we will also have regular moments of pause and prayer, reflecting on our moving through significant milestones of the Prophet’s journey ﷺ and weaving in the meanings of Fitra (Wholeness), Tawba (Repentance), Love & Service as we walk north into Madinah and ultimately enter into the Prophetic Presence and greet him ﷺ together with sore feet and full, aching hearts.
I pray that Allah facilitates and accepts this from us and that everyone who walks with us finds all that they seek from it and more.
“Far be it from him to ever deprive the hopeful one of his generous gifts,
Or to turn back someone seeking refuge without treating him honorably
For ever since I have devoted all my thoughts to his praise,
I have found him to be the best guarantor of my salvation.”
- Qasida Burda/ The Poem of the Mantle, verses 148-14
What is the Hijrah Walk?
The Hijrah Walk refers to the migration by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and his companions, from Makkah to Madinah in the year 622 CE. This event, known as the Hijrah, marks the beginning of the Islamic calendar.
The Hijrah Walk profoundly symbolises the shift from persecution and hardship in Makkah to the establishment of a new Muslim community in Madinah.

Dr. Mazen Atassi, ND
As a holistic clinician, my greatest joy is watching my patients grow, heal, transform trauma into triumph, and begin to feel the vital aliveness that flows within. Resolving chronic physical symptoms is one thing (and most definitely a very important thing!), but healing the deeper wounds of the soul and restoring ‘afiya (vital well-being) and our connection to Fitra (Original Balance) is the high goal that we are after. And here at Forward to Health, we do BOTH.
I have also received further training in homeopathy, somatic-relational counseling methods (NARM), advanced training in nutrition and food intolerances (Carroll Method), acupuncture, and more.
I have sat with and learned from some of the world’s greatest doctors, healers, and therapists, and I hope to continue to do so until the end of my life- while being at service.
One of the most important projects I am currently involved in is in developing and teaching the Islamic Psychology diploma at the Cambridge Muslim College. Working alongside an eclectic team of world-class educators and clinicians, the CMC program is the first of its kind in developing a top-down AND bottom-up Islamic Psychology model that is rooted in traditional Islamic metaphysics as well as the holistic vitalistic tradition of Hikma (Naturopathic) Medicine. I teach Module 3 of the program titled “Hikma: Vitalism & Somatic Medicine”
I’ve been featured on numerous podcasts and have regularly traveled, in the U.S and abroad, for talks and retreats in various spaces. I have lectured at universities all over the country, including Harvard and Princeton.
I am a father — My children are the apples of my eye and the joys of my heart. Being a father has taught me so much about love; giving and receiving it. I consider them, as well as my wonderful wife, amongst my greatest teachers.
